Welcome to Kouvola

The new Kouvola, established on January 1, 2009, was celebrated as the 10th largest city in Finland. The new city of Kouvola, with almost 90 000 residents, was created by merging Anjalankoski, Elimäki, Jaala, Kuusankoski, Valkeala and Kouvola.

In Kouvola, urban and rural live side-by-side. The Kymi River winding through the region serves some of the largest companies in the global forest industry, giving the populace employment and a unique landscape. Kouvola is the largest garrison city in Finland, with broad rural areas surrounding an urban centre. In addition, it is the largest centre of rail transport and land logistics in Finland.

In Kouvola, nature offers the best scenery for outdoor activities and cottages. Repovesi National Park is located in the Region. Kouvola also has one of the biggest garrisons in Finland, the Vekaranjärvi garrison, and helicopter base in Utti.
