Waltti Contactless Payment Introduced in Kouvola Public Transport

Waltti contactless payment allows you to travel using a debit or credit card or a mobile device. It’s easy to use because it always guarantees the passenger the lowest possible fare.

All Kouvola public transport buses are now equipped with reader devices that enable Waltti contactless payment. You can pay either with a debit or credit card or with a mobile device that has a contactless payment feature.

A single trip with Waltti contactless payment costs €2.90. The system automatically tracks the two-hour transfer time and detects when the daily or weekly price cap is reached. A price cap means the maximum amount after which the card will no longer be charged. The daily rolling price cap (€8.30) is calculated for 24 hours from the first tap. The first two trips of the day are charged at the normal price of €2.90. The third trip within the same day is slightly cheaper (€2.50), and from the fourth trip onward, nothing is charged until 24 hours have passed since the first tap.

The weekly price cap (€29) resets at midnight between Sunday and Monday. For example, if a customer commutes by bus twice a day on weekdays, the weekly cap will be reached with those work trips, and weekend trips will then be free. The customer does not need to monitor the price caps themselves, as the automated system will not charge the account once either cap has been reached. To ensure transfer times and price caps work correctly, it’s important to always use the same payment method.

Contactless payment is personal, and you cannot pay for another person’s trip with the same card or mobile device. Contactless payment always charges the adult fare. A child’s ticket is not yet available when paying with Waltti contactless. A malfunctioning payment method or reader device does not entitle you to a free trip; in such cases, the fare must be paid using another payment method.

When traveling with Waltti contactless payment, no paper receipt is printed for the customer. A special passenger portal has been set up where you can track your completed trips and charges and print receipts if needed.

How to travel using Waltti contactless payment:

  1. Tell the driver you want to pay by contactless, or if the bus has a pole reader, select the contactless payment button.
  2. Place your payment method on the reader device. The device confirms a successful purchase with a sound signal.
  3. If you change buses, use the reader and the same payment method again. The system will handle the transfer time calculation and will not charge your card if transfer time remains.
  4. Use the same payment method throughout the week. This way, you save money if your daily or weekly cap is reached.
