Kouvola lies in the south-eastern part of Finland approx. 140 kilometres from Helsinki. Our school is a comprehensive school comprising grades 7-9 with about 320 pupils . We share the same building with the Upper Secondary School with about 280 students. The school building dates from 1963. Its central location provides an opportunity to benefit from the many cultural resources that the town has to offer for educational purposes: Town and Region library, sports fields, ice hall, theatre and an adult education institution. The goals in education are as follows: -guaranteeing pupils high standards of education in a student-friendly, healthy , pleasant and safe environment -developing students’ social skills stressing the importance of taking other people into consideration - encouraging them to pursue further studies - emphasizing students’ own responsibility - promoting international understanding ( We have contacts with the Nordic countries and since 1998 with a Bavarian school Seligenthal near Munich) Areas of special interest are music and mathematics and we have special classes in them.
