Kouvola takes advantage of its superb location, thus creating added value to the City through jobs and thriving businesses.
The last few years have shown that the project initiated under the Innorail brand, which utilises the Trans-Siberian railway that goes from Kouvola to the Pacific Ocean, has been a success. China is the land of the future and an important business partner. Cooperation and expert exchange between the City of Kouvola and China has been active and successful.

International Kouvola does not just mean the recently opened China Centre, which specialises in trade with China. The Region of Kouvola also holds some of the biggest paper mills in the world: Stora Enso and Myllykoski Paper in Anjalankoski and UPM Kymmene in Kuusankoski. International Kouvola can be seen in the numerous international contacts in forest industry jobs and the number of design firms in Kouvola.

Added international atmosphere in Kouvola is created by the English and Russian lines of the Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences and the units of Helsinki University in Kasarminmäki, Kouvola. Comprehensive schools also have active relationships with twin cities and other institutions in Europe.

South-Western Finland and the City of St Petersburg have a joint lobbying office in Brussels.
